Partwell invests in 3D plastics engineering technology

Confident of future opportunities for growth in plastics engineering, Blackburn-based Partwell has invested in an Accord 40 Prisma five-axis machine with 3D Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software.

Technical drawing in 3D is a long, difficult and skillful task but this software allows multiple file formats to be manipulated into a three-dimensional shape which, once achieved, is relayed to the machine via computer for easy cutting.

The £120,000 investment, which includes a contribution of £20,000 from the North West Development Agency, will bring additional benefits such as the ability to machine long or wide pieces.

The Accord also has fast automatic tool change technology and 26 tool stations.
