Atkins wins Qatar transport infrastructure contract

Engineering design consultancy Atkins has been awarded a three-year contract, worth in excess of £70m, by the Qatar Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, to support delivery of its multi-billion-dollar transport and infrastructure programmes.

Under this contract, Atkins will establish a Central Planning Office (CPO) to co-ordinate current and planned road, rail, metro and other major transport and infrastructure projects, including elements associated with the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

Qatar’s 2030 vision includes programmes for education, health, science and sport, all of which must be connected by multiple forms of transport infrastructure.

The CPO will be a single co-ordinating body that will be responsible for ensuring all works are planned in an integrated and efficient way, to minimise disruption and maximise cost effectiveness.
