High-res video camera targets medics

Sony Electronics has introduced the DXC-190, a 1-CCD colour video camera for the medical microscopy industry.

A new 10-Bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP) within the camera makes it capable of performing a variety of advanced functions. Backlight compensation and automatic white balancing allow users to capture clear images even when the visual field and lighting conditions vary.

An external synchronisation function allows manipulations like video switching to be accomplished without causing picture distortion when multiple cameras are connected to a supervisory system.

The camera measures 2 5/8 x 2 1/4 x 5 ½ inches and weighs 600g. It uses a triple multiplexing method that allows power to be delivered to the camera, video signal and sync signal simultaneously.

A camera adaptor can also be connected to the camera via a single coaxial cable.

The new camera is currently available for a suggested list price of $995.
