The Aerospace Industrial Development Corp has awarded BAE Systems Controls a $7.1 million contract to upgrade the flight control computer on Taiwan’s Indigenous Defensive Fighter.

The Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (AIDC) has awarded BAE Systems Controls a $7.1 million contract to upgrade the flight control computer on Taiwan’s Indigenous Defensive Fighter (IDF).

The contract includes engineering design, development, and delivery of flight test hardware.

The computers, based on a 32-bit PowerPC processor, will support a two-year flight test program scheduled to begin in 2004.

It is expected that successful flight-testing of the six computers will lead to an order for approximately 130 additional units to retrofit older 16-bit computers currently in service.
