Bombardier Transportation has received an order from the Ports and Railways Authority-Israel Railways (Tel Aviv) to deliver three 4-car double-deck trains, each consisting of one power car and three trailer cars.

The contract, which is a follow-on order to a contract awarded in August 1999, is valued at about Cdn $24 million (16 million Euro).

The air-conditioned trains, which are scheduled to be delivered between April and May 2004, will be put in service for the Tel Aviv area as part of the project ‘Railway 2000’.

The trains will be manufactured and assembled at Bombardier Transportation’s site in Görlitz, Germany. The electrical equipment will be provided by Bombardier’s site in Berlin-Marzahn, and the bogies by its site in Vetschau, also in Germany.

The current order brings to 17 the number of double-deck trains ordered by the Israel Railways since 1999. The first 14 trains have already been delivered.
