New acrylic adhesive solves sticky problems

Permabond has developed a new 2-part toughened acrylic structural adhesive, V5004, which is said to combine rapid bonding with structural strength.

Permabond has developed a new 2-part toughened acrylic structural adhesive, V5004, which is said to combine ultra rapid bonding with structural strength.

V5004 is supplied in cartridges for mixing in a 1:1 ratio through a self-mixing nozzle. The mixed adhesive is non-stringing, making it ideal for manual and automated application. The adhesive is also said to have good gap filling characteristics and does not require an activator or primer for use.

Once applied, V5004 quickly reaches handling strength due to its fast cure speed and its ability to be unaffected by atmospheric moisture.

Cured V5004 is flexible and will bond dissimilar materials such as metals, glass, ceramics, composites, plastics and wood. Being a toughened adhesive, V5004 is able to resist impacts, vibration and thermal cycling.

According to Permabond, typical applications in which V5004 is used are the bonding of automotive trim, loudspeaker assembly, metal fixings to composite structures and furniture construction.
