Two new visualisation tools from Fakespace

Fakespace Systems has recently introduced the dStation and ROVR, two new interactive visualisation systems for commercial, government and education applications.

Fakespace Systems has introduced two new interactive visualisation systems, expanding its portfolio of solutions for commercial, government and education applications.

The dStation (Decision Station) is a movable modular system for collaborative work, offering high-resolution monoscopic images with integrated audio, video and multi-windowing capabilities. The ROVR (Rapidly Operational Virtual Reality) is a large screen, digital active-stereo system that is said to set up in fifteen minutes and delivers bright, sharp imagery for use in field research, work reviews, special events or trade shows.

‘Input from the largest installed base of advanced visualisation users in the world has taught us that making visualisation systems more accessible to users leads to new applications and greater productivity in organisations,’ said Jim Angelillo, vice president of Advanced Programs and Marketing at Fakespace. ‘Our latest products step away from a ‘make users go to the work space’ concept to the mode of bringing the visualisation to the places people work.’

The dStation is a full featured, self-contained 4-ft. x 10-ft., two-channel visualisation wall that can be separated into two 4-ft. x 5-ft. modules. Each module contains a high brightness, 1280 x 1024 monoscopic digital projector.

Up to eight computer sources can be connected and selected for display on either projection channel. DVD and SVHS players are built-in and connected to a two-channel audio system. Two more external video sources can also be connected. An available multi-window input controller allows numerous computer and video sources to be displayed simultaneously on both screens. Data and video windows can also be resized to full width or moved anywhere on the continuous screen in real-time.

A complete dStation system can be installed in one day without any facility modifications. Where visualisation of even more data is required, a third or even fourth module can be integrated in the dStation, creating a continuous wall display as large as 4-ft. x 20-ft.

The ROVR comes standard with 2000 lumen active stereo projector, and the design reportedly allows easy access to computer and video source connections. The 6-ft. x 8-ft. rear projection screen mounts quickly and can be easily aligned with the projector for optimal image size and quality. A fabric enclosure encompasses the entire system, blocking overhead light and creating a cohesive, stand-alone unit.

To enhance immersive viewing experiences, a variety of quickly connected and operational wired or wireless motion tracking systems and interaction devices are available. If stereoscopic viewing is not required, a monoscopic projection system can be implemented. Audio equipment can be hidden inside the surround, and a workstation can be built into the projector enclosure to create a self-contained, portable visualisation system. Also, two or three ROVR systems can be joined and used simultaneously to create a single large-scale blended or edge matched wall.
