United Defense awarded $43.7 million gun contract

United Defense Industries has been awarded a $43.7 million contract to refurbish 201 M109A2 and M109A3 self-propelled howitzers for Egypt.

United Defense Industries has been awarded a $43.7 million contract modification from the US Army’s Tank-automotive and Armaments Command to refurbish 201 M109A2 and M109A3 self-propelled howitzers for Egypt.

Under this award, United Defense will complete a comprehensive refurbishment effort on M109A2/A3 self-propelled howitzers purchased from US Army long-supply stocks.

Each vehicle will be returned to fully functional condition prior to delivery and fielding, with emphasis on the drive train, fire control and main armament.

Work will be done at United Defense facilities in York and Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and Anniston, Alabama.

This contract is part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement between the US Government and Egypt and will run through November 2005.
