NASA has evoked a $294m option to extend a contract with Wyle Laboratories, Houston, to support the Space Life Sciences Directorate at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre until 2011.



Under the bioastronautics contract, Wyle will carry out work to support the International Space Station, Space Shuttle, Constellation and Human Research programs.



Working from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Wyle’s laboratories also provides services to cover program integration, habitability and environmental considerations, space medicine and flight hardware.



The original five-year contract, from May 2003, was valued at $479m with two extension options. This new extension will take the contract to April 2011, and if the second option is exercised, to April 2013.



Subcontractors who will be involved in the work include the Houston-based companies of Barrios Technology, Bastion Technologies, Muniz Engineering and Lockheed Martin.
