Rubber wheels

Notinghamshire-based Icon Polymer has won a major contract to mould the rubber on to the British Army’s Warrior fighting vehicle wheels for the next three years.

Polymer component manufacturer Icon Polymer has won a major contract to mould the rubber onto Warrior fighting vehicle wheels for the next three years.

The British Army is upgrading its Warrior vehicles to extend their service life beyond 2020 and Retford-based Icon Polymer will supply the rubber moulding for 14,000 wheels for the fleet.

According to Icon, the rubber moulding of the wheels is a safety and mission-critical component as failure leads the vehicle to lose its tracks and become immobilised.

Icon has developed its Endurance compound specifically to withstand the increased weight of modern fighting vehicles without compromising service life.

John Greaves, Icon’s director of sales, said: ‘We have extensive experience of the defence industry and securing this prestigious contract underlines our commitment to performance and safety.

‘We have invested heavily in our manufacturing cell for fighting vehicle wheels to ensure that Icon is well positioned to supply this product for the life of the current and future vehicle range.’
