Boeing programme to develop eco technologies

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has launched its Eco Demonstrator Program to accelerate emerging environmental technologies in the areas of fuel efficiency, noise reduction and operational efficiency, while readying technologies at a faster pace for aviation applications.

As part of the programme, Boeing will deliver the flight-test portion of the US Federal Aviation Administration’s Continuous Lower Energy Emissions Noise (CLEEN) programme, under a matching-cost contract worth $25m (£16m).

Two Eco Demonstrator aircraft will be used, including a Next-Generation 737 in 2012, with a second series of flights aboard a Boeing twin-aisle aircraft in 2013.
