General Dynamics to upgrade army communications systems

General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of industrial contractor General Dynamics, has been awarded $21m (£14m) in task orders through the Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP) contract to upgrade the voice-telecommunications switching capabilities at US Army bases in Fort Carson, Colombia, and Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

Under the contracts, which cover a two-year period of performance, General Dynamics will engineer, furnish, install and test a range of government-certified telecommunications systems, including voice, transport and data networks.

The effort will result in modernised voice systems that pave the way for future convergence of army voice and data networks.
