BASF and SINOPEC to explore isononanol plant potential

BASF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) to explore the possibility of building a world-scale isononanol plant in Maoming, China.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties will evaluate the technical, commercial and economic viability of jointly owning such a facility under a 50-50 joint venture.

Isononanol is used as the feedstock for the production of plasticisers used in industries such as automotive, wires and cables, flooring, building and construction, as well as more sensitive applications.
