Alstom has won a long-term contract worth 13 million Euros to replace around 1,000 distribution transformers for Arcelor, the world’s biggest producer of flat carbon steel and long carbon steel.

Under the contract, the Transmission and Distribution Sector (T&D) of Alstom will replace Arcelor ‘s transformers at sites in France over a period of seven years. Alstom hopes to extend the contract to cover the replacement of distribution transformers at Arcelor sites worldwide.

Arcelor is replacing all its distribution transformers containing PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) in line with EU legislation banning such equipment from 2010 onwards.

The replacement transformers will be from Alstom ‘s Harmony range of cast-iron dry-type transformers and the Melody range of oil-immersed transformers.
