National Semiconductor notes rise in sales

US manufacturer National Semiconductor has reported sales of $398.5m (£272.3m) and net income of $79.2m, or $0.33 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010, which ended on 30 May 2010.

Sales were 10 per cent higher than in the third quarter of fiscal 2010, when the company reported $362m in sales, and 42 per cent higher than the $281m reported in fourth-quarter 2009.  

Net income was up from $53.2m, or $0.22 per diluted share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2010 and a net loss of $63.7m, or $0.28 per diluted share, in last year’s fourth quarter.

Gross margin increased to 68.8 per cent, compared with 67.3 per cent in the third quarter of fiscal 2010 and 58.3 per cent in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009.
