Samsung expands semiconductor plant

Semiconductor manufacturer Samsung Austin has announced plans to expand the capacity of its 12in semiconductor fabrication plant in Austin with a $3.6bn (£2.5bn) investment.

The expanded plant, one of the largest in the US, will produce advanced logic devices for Samsung’s System LSI business.

The company will also hire an additional 500 employees as a result of the expansion.

The facility, which is dedicated to front-end fabrication of advanced 45nm logic process technology, is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
