Thales wins New York subway upgrade contract

Thales’ transport business has been awarded a seven-year contract worth $347m (£232m) by public transport authority MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) to perform signalling upgrades and related refurbishment to the subway system’s Flushing Line.

Thales’s communications-based train control (CBTC) technology will be integrated into the Flushing Line as other upgrades to the line are taking place, including the addition of new rolling stock, which will be placed in service by 2014.
