Wärtsilä forms partnership to create SCR system

In an extension of its existing cooperation in the development of two-stage turbocharged medium-speed diesel engines, Finnish power-solutions provider Wärtsilä and Swiss turbocharging company ABB Turbo Systems intend to cooperate with a third partner, after-treatment company HUG Engineering, based in Elsau, Switzerland.

The object of the joint project is to develop a compact selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that is tailored to operation with two-stage turbocharging.

Under the envisaged agreement, Wärtsilä, ABB Turbo Systems and HUG will target a further expansion of flexible engine operation at reduced NOx emissions and optimised fuel consumption, as well as targeting savings in lifecycle costs.
