Atkins announces substantial rise in regional profits

UK engineering and design consultancy Atkins has announced financial results for the year ended 31 March 2011, in which dividend increased by 5.5 per cent.

Underlying operating profit was up 7.5 per cent, while underlying operating margin was 7.6 per cent, compared with 8.0 per cent in the previous year.

According to the company, integration of strategic acquisition in North America progressed well and the business performed in line with its expectations, with margin improvement at 4.6 per cent.

Regional profits were up 70 per cent and this was attributed primarily to successful debt recovery and diversification into infrastructure in the Middle East.
