ThyssenKrupp Elevator to supply lifts for Bulgarian metro

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has won its second contract in connection with Bulgaria’s biggest current infrastructure project, for which, this time, it will manufacture and install a further 19 lifts and 31 escalators for the expansion of Sofia’s metro system.

These 50 units, representing the company’s biggest-ever contract in the country, are for four new underground stations in the city centre, including the central train station and Sveta Nedelya Square intersection.

Previously, ThyssenKrupp Elevator supplied a total of 17 lifts and 10 escalators to stations of the Sofia metro system that have been in operation since 2009.

The overall expansion programme is scheduled for completion in 2015, at which point the extended network will comprise 65km of track and a total of 63 stations, for which planners anticipate more than 1.2m passengers per day.
