US Army awards Raytheon Excalibur Ib contract

US defence contractor Raytheon has been awarded a $36m (£22.5m) contract by the US Army for the final phase of the Excalibur Ib development programme, which concludes with warfighter tests and will qualify Excalibur Ib for fielding.

The Excalibur Ib is a long-range, precision-guided artillery projectile that features a non-spinning fixed base and requires fewer parts, as well as simpler manufacturing, than Excalibur Ia, resulting in better performance and a reduced cost.
