Siemens fits out power plant in the UAE

Siemens’ Power Generation Group is to supply turbines as well as instrumentation and control equipment for the Jebel Ali power plant complex.

The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) is to supply three gas turbines, two steam turbines, five generators, and the electrical and instrumentation and control equipment for the Jebel Ali power plant complex in the United Arab Emirates.

The seawater desalination plant linked to the complex is also to be fitted with instrumentation and control equipment from PG. The Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution Group (PTD) will provide the high–voltage switchgear for the new combined–cycle power plant. The plant will have an electrical capacity of 850 megawatts and desalinate 50 million gallons (230,000 cubic meters) of seawater daily.

The total value of the orders for Siemens is around Eur140 million. The total investment in the plant amounts to around Eur500 million.

The purchaser of the equipment is the Italian power provider Enelpower, which as general contractor is building the entire plant together with the Italian Fisia Italimpanti, the company responsible for the desalination plant.

Jebel Ali is located around 50 kilometers from Dubai and comprises a number of power plant units and desalination plants with a combined electrical capacity of almost 2,000 megawatts and a daily production capacity of 115 million gallons (530,000 cubic meters) of desalinated water.
