Alliant Techsystems (ATK) has been awarded a $30 million contract from General Dynamics Ordnance Systems to produce propellant used in MK90 motors for the HYDRA-70 rocket system.

ATK Ammunition and Powder will produce the propellant at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, Virginia, which it operates for the US Army.

The HYDRA-70 system comprises a family of 2.75-inch unguided rockets, and is the most widely used helicopter weapon system in the world today.

The rockets are fired from a number of rotary and fixed-wing platforms, including the US Army Apache and US Marine Corps Cobra helicopters, the US Air Force F-16 Falcon fighter, and the combat aircraft of over 15 nations throughout the world.
