Finnair selects Trent XWB engines

Rolls-Royce today announced that Finnair has become the first customer to select the Trent XWB to power its new fleet of Airbus A350 XWB twinjets.

Rolls-Royce today announced that Finnair has become the first customer to select the Trent XWB to power its new fleet of 11 firm, plus four option, Airbus A350 XWB twinjets. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2014.

This announcement represents a conversion of the airline’s original order for the Trent 1700 on the previous version of the A350, plus engines for another two firm aircraft that Finnair has added to its purchase. The deal is worth around $600m at list prices, including the original engine order.

The Trent XWB, which will offer a single power source for all variants of the A350 XWB, is currently the only engine available on the aircraft.

Nick Devall, Executive Vice President, Civil Large Engines at Rolls-Royce, said: ‘We’re offering a solution that’s specifically tailored to meet the needs of the aircraft, so it doesn’t compromise performance and ensures the lowest operating costs for the A350 XWB.’
