Slovenian mining company Premogovnik Velenje has placed an order with the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group to modernise the winder system of a coalmine.

The scope of supply includes a new winder controller, a converter, control desks and a data recording system. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2007.

The heart of the modernisation program is a winder technological controller, or WTC, which integrates all the closed-loop control, open-loop control and safety applications. Using standardised Simatic S7 components, it monitors and controls the speeds of the winder and the position of the cages. At the same time, the controller shortens and optimises the travel times.

Thanks to two-channel technology, the winder controller monitors itself, maintaining safety standards. It has been certified in accordance with the German technical requirements for vertical and inclined haulage (TAS) and mining regulations for coalmines (BVOS).

A data recording system is used to monitor the installation, allowing the entire installation or parts of it to be monitored on screen. Siemens is to deliver a new 6-pulse Simovert DC Master converter to power the motors for the two-rope winder system. The winder system is controlled via two control desks.

The scope of supply also includes monitoring of the installation work and commissioning of the new equipment. Removal of the old installation and commissioning of the new equipment is scheduled to take place within a period of three weeks.
