The Society of British Aerospace Companies is holding its 2008 Annual Conference, in association with Thales UK, to examine the place of the UK aerospace sector on the world stage

The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) is today holding its 2008 Annual Conference, in association with Thales UK, to examine the place of the UK aerospace sector on the world stage.

Conference speakers will address topics ranging from the green agenda in civil air transport to the case for space.

SBAC chief executive Ian Godden, said: ‘The aerospace, defence and security industry is a British success story. Its contribution to the UK economy, technology development and skills base continues to serve the nation well. These sectors are beacons of optimism during a period of darkening economic and financial clouds.

‘For example, in 2006, the UK aerospace industry exported 62.7 per cent of its total sales, worth £12.5bn, an increase of eight per cent on 2005. In the long term, the sector is expected to grow at five to six per cent per annum and make an average annual positive contribution to the trade balance of over £3bn. Winning profitable new international business is a key priority for SBAC.’
