Total Global Steel has announced its intentions to build a steel mesh fabrication plant with a steel stockyard at the Port of Sunderland, creating up to 40 jobs.
Six jobs will be created initially, with the other positions being made available in metals import and product export.
Sunderland councilors have approved a 25-year lease for Total Global Steel to build its plant on the 0.9 hectare site originally purchased by oil company Fina, who pulled out in 2005.
Total Global Steel’s plans are in line with an increase in shipping business in Sunderland. The government predicts the amount of business passing through ports is likely to go up by 10 per cent a year.
