Waste park in Berks

Earth Tech and civil engineering contractor Clugston Construction have developed a unique waste management park in Berkshire.

The opening of the park in Smallmead forms part of a £26m project in conjunction with Waste Recycling Group, one of the UK’s leading waste management services and energy recovery companies.

The Smallmead project includes a household waste recycling centre and is one of the first in the UK to be completely contained in a purpose built structure.

The centre even has a CCTV enabled viewing area should any members of the public actually want to watch as their recycled waste is processed.

A second waste management park in Longshot will be under construction from April and is due to open in the summer of 2009.

The projects form part of a £600m, 25-year Private Finance Initiative (PFI) waste management contract between Reading Borough Council, Bracknell Forest Borough Council, Wokingham District Council and Waste Recycling Group.

Earth Tech and Clugston were appointed to design, build and commission the two waste and recycling centres, which together will serve 160,000 households and manage more than 200,000 tonnes of household waste each year.
