Aerospace and Automotive Academy opens in Farnborough

Vince Cable, secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, has opened a new Aerospace and Automotive Academy at the Farnborough College of Technology.

The facility, claimed to be the most modern of its kind in the UK, will provide skills-based education that will prepare young people to compete for roles in these specialised areas of industry.

The new academy — part of a £30m capital investment that the college has made over the last seven years — offers its students access to equipment and techniques that reflect those used by modern companies operating within the sectors.

With the college’s links to the regional aerospace and automotive industries, the academy also offers opportunities for apprenticeship training and industry placements.
