Mabey Bridge completes first section of wind turbine tower

Engineering firm Mabey Bridge is ready to roll out the first completed section of an 80m wind turbine tower from its new £38m factory in Newhouse, Chepstow.

The UK’s only indigenous producer of on-shore wind turbine towers has finished work on a 26.6m-long structure, which is destined for the Seamer wind farm in North Yorkshire.

It is conically tapered from 3.9m in diameter to 3.45m in diameter and, due to its dimensions and weight, will require the use of an extendable low loader to reach its destination.

Work will now begin on two further sections, one larger in average diameter and one smaller, to complete the tower.
