Mabey Bridge installs welding stations at Chepstow plant

Engineering firm Mabey Bridge has invested £1.25m in three new welding stations that are now installed and fully operational at its £38m facility at Newhouse, Chepstow.

Three purpose-built Column and Booms with Lincoln Power Wave welding equipment have been purchased from American firm Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technologies (AMET), which specialises in the supply of wind-turbine manufacturing components worldwide.

The specialist equipment is designed to carry out all the welding processes necessary for wind-tower manufacture, both longitudinal and circumferential.

It has already been used to finish various sections of towers destined for the Seamer wind farm in North Yorkshire and fit flanges to allow the tower sections to be joined together on-site.
