SLR acquires environmental mining consultant Metago

International environmental consultancy SLR has announced the acquisition of Metago, a South African environmental consultant to the mining industry, for £7m.

Metago works across sub-Saharan Africa and Western Australia for clients including Xtrata, Rio Tinto, Lonmin and Goldfields, and is currently working on the Rossing and Langer Heinrich mines in Namibia that produce 12 per cent of the world’s uranium.

In little more than a year, SLR has acquired three other specialist environmental consultants to the resources and energy sectors as it has expanded into the resource-based economies of Alaska, Australia and now Africa, its aim being to take advantage of high demand from the extractive industries.
