Potential battery cable cover fault prompts BMW recall

BMW has announced the recall of around 1.3 million BMW 5 and 6 Series models built between 2003 and 2010.

The German car maker said that the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted, which could lead to the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, charring or fire.

So far, no accidents or injuries have been reported as a consequence of this potential fault.

BMW said vehicle owners will be notified in writing and that affected vehicles will need a free, 30-minute repair job.
