Electronics engineers requiring high-density, high-speed 2mm shielded cable assemblies for mid-plane applications can get lower EMI emissions while maintaining signal integrity using new products from the 3M Electronic Solutions Division.



The 3M brand 2mm SCI Cable Assembly is said to be a fully shielded control impedance connector that provides high density and high performance in a 2mm form factor. Other products in the 3M 2mm SCI product platform include 2mm SCI terminations on coaxial or twin axial cables.



3M says that by applying matched impedance and large gauge wire in the product, the cable assembly can run at a higher baud rate over longer distances.



Designed as a robust interconnect, the 3M 2mm SCI cable assembly has a metal connector with flexible cable, creating a robust and durable termination to the connector shield. These features reportedly allow designers to improve system quality and reliability. The 3M cable assemblies mate to HSHM and CompactPCI backplane headers, Futurebus and 2mm pin strips.


The 3M 2mm SCI cable assembly can fit into several platform design options and can be customised to a specific customer need using its 1×2 building block. Because customers can specify the orientation and size of a potential carrier, cable assemblies can fit into customer’s configurations and space.
