EDF to monitoring substations

Sarian Systems has announced that 400 of EDF’s electricity substations across London and the South East will be using its mobile routing technology for remote monitoring.

The six-month rollout involves equipping EDF Energy’s Networks branch substations in the southeast with Sarian’s MR410 wireless routers.

Sarian routers link the legacy monitoring system to a wireless internet protocol (IP) network, while performance information is sent via the networks VSAT satellite. However, if there is a network problem or if the primary connection becomes unavailable, the routers detect the issue and switch to a GPRS mobile network connection.

EDF is also using Sarian’s REMOTEMANAGER software to configure and conduct routine operations, such as software upgrades, remotely at scheduled times. It allows EDF to diagnose and remedy problems without having to dispatch an engineer, as well as providing the company with essential security functions including audit trail of events for each unit.
