Northern Ireland based Laser Prototypes (Europe) has invested £250,000 in a selective laser sintering (SLS) system to develop the company’s capabilities and open up new export markets.
Based in Belfast, Laser Prototypes (Europe) provides a range of rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing services to the aerospace, automotive, general manufacturing, electrical and medical device industries.
The company purchased the EOS P390 SLS system to facilitate the fast and cost effective direct manufacture of end products, spare parts, functional prototypes and patterns, directly from CAD data.
‘According to industry experts, rapid manufacturing is growing internationally and the worldwide market is expected to grow to $2.3bn,’ said Tom Walls, managing director, Laser Prototypes (Europe). ’It significantly reduces labour, making it much easier for organisations in the West to compete with companies in countries where labour rates are low. This new technology will give us a competitive edge and will enable us to further exploit new foreign markets including France and Germany.’
