Eastern Airways is to link the north east of England with Norway when it launches its first non-stop international service from Newcastle International Airport to Stavanger.
The new daily flights provide the fastest weekday service to Stavanger, where many leading oil and gas companies are located. Flights depart from Newcastle at 9.50am, landing in Stavanger at 12.40pm local time, while services leave Stavanger at 1.10pm, arriving in Newcastle at 2pm local time.
The north east has had business links with Norway’s oil industry for many years, but the latest oil boom resulted in over 30 Norwegian companies visiting the Rediscover North East England conference in Newcastle.
One NorthEast inward investment and aftercare manager Patrick Kendall said: ‘The new Stavanger route is great news for the region as it will help to further develop our long standing trade and investment links with Norway, one of our closest export markets.’
He added: ‘The tremendous success of the Rediscover North East England conference was testament to the north east’s capacity to support a thriving offshore industry and share in the success of the current oil and gas boom.’
