Earth Tech has signed a £5m contract with Yorkshire Water to repair flood damage at the Aldwarke water and waste treatment works.

Aldwarke was severely affected in June 2007 by floodwater, which rose to heights of 2.5m across the whole site and as a result a significant number of plant components were damaged.

Temporary repair work was carried out immediately after flooding to restore treatment capability but Earth Tech has been appointed to carry out a full-scale repair and replacement of damaged assets with the aim of restoring the site to its former condition.

Earth Tech will replace or refurbish the electrical and mechanical plant, which includes 13 motor control centres, control panels, cabling pumps and aerators. A refurbishment of the scraper bridge and two off-site pumping stations will be included in the contract.

Earth Tech project manager Rob Wroe said: ‘The work is vital in protecting the whole site to ensure it is well placed to withstand any future flooding.’
