Atmel reveals first-quarter earnings

Atmel, a provider of microcontroller and touch solutions, has announced revenues for its first quarter ended 31 March 2010 of $348.6m (£229.6m) – up 1.4 per cent from $343.6m in the fourth quarter of 2009 and up 28.4 per cent from the $271.5m reported in the first quarter of 2009.

GAAP net income was $16.6m, or $0.04 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2010, compared with a GAAP net loss of $83.3m, or a loss of $0.18 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2009 and a net income of $3.6m, or $0.01 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2009.

Non-GAAP net income in the first quarter of 2010 totalled $25.5m, or $0.05 per diluted share, compared with a non-GAAP net income of $11.3m, or $0.02 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2009 and a non-GAAP net income of $20.1m, or $0.04 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2009.
