Kvaerner awarded $12 million

Kvaerner do Brasil has signed a $12 million contract to modernise the bleach and recausticising plants at Aracruz Celulose’s Guaiba mill in Brazil.

Kvaerner do Brasil, a subsidiary of Kvaerner Pulping, has signed a $12 million contract to modernise the bleach and recausticising plants at Aracruz Celulose’s Guaiba mill in Brazil.

The order is part of a project to increase capacity at the Aracruz plant to 430,000 tonnes of bleached eucalyptus pulp per year.

The modernised bleach plant will comprise a three-stage bleaching sequence, including a new Compact Press, a wash press used in most of the fibreline washing and bleaching applications for the manufacture of chemical pulp.

The recausticising plant, equipped with a new PDW filter as well as a new lime mud filter, will produce 5,200 m3 white liquor per day after the rebuild. Start-up is scheduled to November 2005.
