The Materials Innovation & Growth Team, which will include representatives from the industry, the regions and government, aims to secure agreement on a shared vision for the future of an industry that employs over four million people in the UK.

The team will be led by Wyn Jones OBE, Chair of British Alcan Aluminium, part of Alcan, one of the world’s major aluminium and packaging companies and was officially launched to coincide with ‘Celebration of UK Engineering Research and Innovation’ event in London.

This exhibition, jointly supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Royal Academy of Engineering, looks at the achievements of UK Engineering and its potential for the future.

“The materials industry is a vital part of the supply chain for major UK industries such as aerospace, automotive and construction so it is essential we set a clear vision for the future of the industry,” said Smith.
