MEIRG up for employment award

The Midlands Engineering Industries Redeployment Group has been short-listed for the European Regional Employment Champion Award 2007

The Midlands Engineering Industries Redeployment Group (MEIRG) has been short-listed for the European Regional Employment Champion Award 2007.

The award is part of the European Regional Champions Awards, which have been developed in association with the EU’s Committee of Regions (CoR) to showcase and celebrate the best in regional innovation and best practice throughout the EU, highlighting champion programmes and projects that can serve as examples to other regions.

The European Employment Champion award goes to the regional initiative that has done most to create jobs or stimulate employment in that region. This may have been achieved through attracting inward investment, developing training programmes or coordinating employment policy with other regions or cities.

The MEIRG aims to ensure that the Midlands can better retain and develop the well trained, skilled and motivated pool of engineering talent that currently exists within the region. It is a regional pilot for a concept that may eventually be promoted throughout the UK.

MEIRG partners include Rolls-Royce, Caterpillar and Bombardier. SMEs are also represented, together with Trade Unions, Engineering federations and organisations such as MAA.

The award winner will be announced on 27 November.
