Production investment

Corus, the London-headquartered steel manufacturer, has invested in two production facilities at its Shotton site in North Wales.

The first project is a £6m investment in a new panel production unit capable of producing one million metres square per year of composite panel cladding for the construction industry. The facility is located close to an upstream Colorcoat production line and will cut transport costs and emissions through local delivery of raw material.

The second investment involves a £11m joint venture between Corus and Australian company Dyesol.

Dyesol is a leader in dye-sensitised systems, and will work with Corus to develop and market metal roof and wall cladding products with dye-sensitised cell photovoltaic capabilities.

The project is supported by the Welsh Assembly government, which hopes it will create high-value added employment in the region.
