Yorkshire-headquartered Yorpower has been awarded a contract said to be worth in excess of $1m to supply four 1,700kVA generators for a major Kuwaiti customer.

The generators, to be built by Yorpower sister company, Techknol Power Generation, will be fully synchronised, supplied with critical silencers to reduce noise levels, and are required to provide power to a major, undisclosed facility in Kuwait City.

The contract is Yorpower’s first order in Kuwait, and is said to continue the company’s development in the Middle East.

Other countries in the region with an installed base from Yorpower include Qatar, Iraq, Jordan and Yemen.

Yorpower managing director, Guy Phoenix, said: ‘We have been working closely with our distributor in Kuwait, and this contract award is the culmination of over two years of hard work by both our teams.

‘We are delighted with this breakthrough order and are already negotiating further orders in Kuwait.’

The generators are due to be supplied in February 2009.
