Altran Praxis wins contract for MoD Spearfish torpedo project

British software provider Altran Praxis has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems Mission Systems to design and build the Safety Electronic Unit for the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Spearfish torpedo upgrade programme.

This project brings together all of Spearfish’s safety control into a single embedded system, the SEU, to enable easier introduction of new performance upgrades to Spearfish, reduce through-life cost and maintain safety levels.

Altran Praxis will take the lead on the project’s safety systems engineering, develop the safety-critical software using model-based technology and procure the hardware platform.

The Spearfish torpedo is claimed to be the world’s most advanced submarine-launched anti-submarine and anti-ship guided weapon.
