Boeing chooses SDRC after summer test

Boeing Commercial Airplane Group will use an SDRC’s e-business software system, to allow users working in the Define and Control Airplane Configuration/Manufacturing Resource Management (DCAC/MRM) system to update databases automatically and transparently.

SDRC has received what a spokesperson described as ‘a significant’ order for both software and services, following a successful technology pilot project held during the summer months. Boeing is using Accelis to simplify engineering data management by automatically updating the product bills of material across multiple databases. The implementation provides the users with a smooth transition from Boeing legacy systems to the DCAC/MRM system.

The software is a standards-based, web-centric package that draws business information from dissimilar enterprise applications and seamlessly presents it to knowledge users and decision-support applications. ‘Accelis enables Boeing users to work with one interface – the web – and thereby greatly simplify data management,’ said Ron Trout, a director with Boeing Commercial Airplane. ‘Based on the results of the pilot, we expect use of Accelis to reduce the time required to perform tedious data management tasks and thereby free engineers to spend more time on design creation.’
