Quest Software has released a tuning solution designed to identify and resolve performance problems in mission-critical, Oracle-based applications. SQLab Vision especially suits e-commerce environments where transaction loads are high and tolerance for poor performance and downtime is low.

‘E-Commerce sites must have fast response times or risk losing customers,’ said Corey Ferengul, program director with META Group. ‘Application tuning is required and too often the database is neglected. The most successful sites will use tools for tuning the underlying database and constantly improving its efficiency.’

SQLab Vision combines Quest’s tuning technology with new non-intrusive data collection capability, impact analysis and expert tuning advice, enabling users to view problems or potential problems at both the database and application levels. The system introduces Quest’s StealthCollect technology, which captures information from both the database and the operating system at sub-second intervals without imposing overhead on the database itself.

SQLab Vision enables database administrators to identify and diagnose inefficient code in every part of the application, including source code, and allows users to pinpoint performance issues in real time, or troubleshoot performance problems that may have occurred hours or days earlier.
