United Defense awarded $300 million development contract

United Defense Industries has received a contract and initial funding for the design, production and testing of Advanced Gun System (AGS) system Engineering Development Models for the US Navy’s new DD(X) Destroyer.

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Pascagoula, Mississippi awarded the contract to United Defense.

Once ratified, United Defense anticipates the Engineering Development Model (EDM) phase of the AGS program would be valued at approximately $300 million, assuming that Congress continues to fund the program.

The contract provides funding to initiate the EDM phase for the 155-mm naval gun intended to fire guided projectiles at a rate of 12 rounds per minute at a range of up to 100 nautical miles.

The initial funding permits continuation of United Defense’s efforts on the AGS development while working with Northrop Grumman Ships Systems to ratify a Cost-Plus-Award- Fee type subcontract, anticipated to be in place later this year.
