Malaysia orders 11 A109s

AgustaWestland today announced the award of a $70 million contract by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence for the supply of 11 Agusta A109 Light Observation Helicopters.

Agusta has been awarded a $70 Million contract by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence for the supply of 11 Agusta A109 Light Observation Helicopters (LOH). The aircraft will be operated by Malaysian Army Aviation.

The A109 LOH, a version of the A109 LUH, has been selected as the best cost effective machine following a rigorous process of evaluation run by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence against several competitors.

The LOH will primarily serve as an airborne system for observation, reconnaissance, tactical transport and area suppression missions.

Today’s announcement comes a month after AgustaWestland won a contract to supply four of the helicopters to South Africa.
