Caledus expansion

Caledus, the Aberdeen-based well construction oil and gas service company, has announced its entry into the Middle East market with the opening of an office and manufacturing base in Dubai.

As part of its long-term plans for international growth, Caledus has made strategic alliances with service companies Shoaibi Group in Saudi Arabia and Al Mazroui Trading and General Services in Abu Dhabi.

Caledus believes these partnerships will provide it with opportunities to promote its SlimWELL and TD SOLUTIONS business stream.

SlimWELL is a well construction system for oil and gas wells based on a bottom’s up design of close-tolerance, flush-jointed liners. The technology is designed to slim down the well profile to enhance safety, enable the deployment of smaller rigs and reduce construction costs by up to 50 per cent.

TD Solutions provides down hole products and services to reduce non productive time (NPT) and ensure tubulars reach planned depth. The range is particularly focused on addressing challenging wellbore conditions such as high angle, extended reach and horizontal wells.

Caledus expects to introduce new tools to its TD solutions portfolio and commercialise its SlimWELL technology in the near future. The company has recorded double-digit growth year-on-year for the past three years and is confident that it can increase this rate of expansion through to 2009.

Paul Howlett, ceo and co-founder of Caledus, said: ‘We see the Middle East as a vitally important market and are entering at a crucial time for Caledus and the industry as a whole. The vast majority of ‘easy plays’ in the region have gone, drilling is becoming much more complex and standard equipment which has proved successful in the past is often unsuitable to the conditions. In these circumstances, we believe our technologies can answer some of the questions posed by today’s Middle East drilling sector challenges.’

The company will mark its expansion into the region at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) early next month.
